The most direct signs that your garment steamer needs cleaning are reduced steam output, intermittent steam or water spraying, and unusual noises. If you notice a significant decrease in ironing efficiency, it's likely due to limescale buildup, and timely cleaning is recommended to restore performance.

Three key diagnostic criteria

Abnormal Steam Output

Steam output is significantly weaker than before, sometimes even stopping halfway through ironing.
Instead of a stable steam output, water is sprayed or dripping, indicating partial blockage in the water system.
This is a typical sign of limescale buildup in the heater or steam pipes.

Abnormal Operating Noise

Sizzling, crackling, or other unusual noises after startup, or increased water pump noise.
The machine takes longer to preheat, and the indicator light doesn't illuminate for a long time.
This may be due to limescale affecting heating efficiency, leading to increased load.

Visible Stains or Odors

White powder, flocculent material, or moss is found inside the water tank.
A burnt or musty smell is emitted during use, indicating bacterial growth or carbon buildup inside. Yellowing or clumps of residue are present on the ironing head.
